Figma Ticker Writer Plugin

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. That’s a nice way to describe a picture, but turning a picture back into those words isn’t always the most fun part of building something.

Documenting your design matters, of course, because there can still be a lot left to interpretation. But I got into design because I like to design, not write documentation.

So we built a thing...

Our Figma Ticket Writer Plugin in action on an initial app design concept for our friends at Fabrik

How it works:

• Select the Figma frames you want to document

• Click “Analyze Selected Screens”

• Watch as the plugin generates clear, detailed descriptions of each screen’s purpose and functionality

• Copy all the descriptions or export to CSV

• Import into your ticketing system of choice

No more staring at a blank “Description” field wondering how to explain that this button does... you know... button things.

Things we learned from the thing:

1. Figma plugins aren’t as scary as they sound. Similar to Chrome Extensions, they’re relatively straightforward to build. Having a tool that can read and interpret an entire Figma file opens up exciting possibilities for automating design workflows.

2. Prompt engineering is where the magic happens. Our first attempts returned technically accurate but practically useless descriptions. It took a few rounds of refinement to get the AI to generate documentation that actually reads like something a human might write and use.

3. Images are always a challenge. The workflow of copying PNGs, getting the AI to read them effectively, and exporting them properly was tricky. Our solution uses direct Figma links that connect straight to the source frames—maintaining context without the complexity.

4. Flexibility beats linear thinking. We initially imagined a direct A-to-B process, but discovered that allowing copy/paste to CSV creates more versatile options. The task of importing to Linear or Jira or whatever is getting pretty trivial.

The big takeaway? Integrating AI into existing workflows isn't just about the technology—it’s about finding the right connection points. AI isn’t pixel-perfect yet, but linking these tools into our everyday processes creates genuine value. It’s less about replacing humans and more about removing the tedious parts of our work.
